Club legend Frank Lampard still remains the hot favourite to take over as Blues manager but the news that Mourinho could return to Stamford Bridge will stun supporters.
The report also states that Chelsea are prioritizing getting in a manager with experience.
The Portuguese has been out of a job since he was axed by Manchester United in December following a series of fallout with players and a string of dismal results.
Express Sport understands that Chelsea have conjured up a six-man shortlist in anticipation of Sarri’s exit.
Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo, Watford’s Javi Gracia and Derby’s Lampard are on the list, as is former Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri.
