Malta 0-2 Spain
Spain continued their unbeaten start to Euro 2020 qualification in Malta on Tuesday night thanks to goals in either half from Atletico Madrid’s on-loan Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata.
Morata slid in from a tight angle in the first half, adding a second with a firm header from Jesus Navas’ cross.
Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was barely needed as Spain remain unbeaten.
The three-time European champions, who were knocked out in the last 16 at Euro 2016, started their qualifying campaign with a narrow 2-1 home win against Norway on Saturday.
Their captain was not needed this time but the 21 shots at goal (7 on target) with only two goals could hurt Luis Enrique’s side sooner rather than later.
Malta, who beat the Faroe Islands in their opening game, sat deep for long spells and never truly threatened Spain but the visitors’ inability to finish hurt them once again.
