Belgium 3-1 Russia
Chelsea’s Eden Hazard scored twice as Belgium ope their Euro 2020 qualifier campaign with victory over Group I rivals Russia.
Leicester’s Youri Tielemans‘ gave Belgium a 14th-minute lead with a low shot after a counter attack, with him finishing from Timothy Castagne’s pass.
Russia equalized two minutes later through Denis Cheryshev, who scored four times in the 2018 World Cup. The Belgium keeper Courtois gave the ball away under pressure from Artem Dzyuba.
But just before the break Eden Hazard restored the host’s lead after he converted from penalty spot awarded for foul on him by Yuri Zhirkov.
The Chelsea forward sealed the victory with a left footed shot from the center of the box after a pass by Michy Batshuayi.
The World Cup semi-finalists are in Cyprus for their next qualifier on Sunday. Russia travel to neighbours Kazakhstan, who embarrassed Scotland 3-0 earlier.
Elsewhere in Group I, Cyprus thrashed fellow minnows San Marino 5-0.
