Cristiano Ronaldo scored hat-trick as Juventus overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit to beat Atletico Madrid and advanced to the Champions League quarter-final.
Juventus’ fans erupted on the final whistle as the players rushed to Ronaldo after he delivered one of the most memorable European nights in the club’s history.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the Champions League’s all-time leading goalscorer with 124 goals, gave Juventus the lead 27 minutes into the game with a close-range header from Federico Bernardeschi’s cross.
The Portuguese nodded in a second four minutes after the break from Joao Cancelo’s delivery to give Juve the leveler in the tie.
The video assistant referee and goalline technology confirmed it was a goal after keeper Jan Oblak initially appeared to have pulled the ball off the line.
Then he completed his hat-trick from a penalty after Bernardeschi was fouled in the area. it was his 124th Champions League goal.
Cristiano Ronaldo once again showed his worth in Europe’s elite competition as his hat-trick overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Atletico Madrid to send Juventus into the Champions League last eight.
Ronaldo has won the competition five times including the last three consecutive times with Real Madrid, he is searching for his sixth medal of the competition. He was the key to unlocking one of the toughest defense in Europe.
Atletico’s defeat means they miss out on the chance to play the final at their own Wanda Metropolitano stadium on 1 June.
