Manchester City 7-0 FC Schalke (Agg. 10-2)
Manchester City move to quarter-finals with a thrashing victory over Schalke in the second leg of their Champions League last 16.
Manchester City came from behind in the first leg to win 3-2 in Germany. They were knocked out in the quarter-finals of last year’s competition by rivals Liverpool and have never won the Champions League.
Sergio Aguero gave City the lead after 30 minutes from a spot kick, penalty awarded by VAR.
He doubled their lead three minutes later after a backheel pass from Raheem Sterling.
Leroy Sane made it three just before the break with a left footed shot bottom right after a through pass from Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Raheem Sterling scored the fourth just before the hour mark, Bernardo Silva then pounced on Sane’s cut-back to make it 5-0.
Then the substitute Phil Foden rounded the keeper after he was played in by Sane and Gabriel Jesus placed the icing on the cake with a curling strike just with six minutes remaining.
The draw for the last eight will take place on Friday at 11:00 GMT.
