Arsenal Cruised into Last 16 of the Europa after a second leg victory over Bate

Arsenal 3-0 Bate Borisov (Agg. 3-1)

Arsenal overturned their 1-nil deficit to reach the last 16 of the Europa League with a comfortable second-leg victory over Bate Borisov at Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were trailing by one goal from first leg, but four minutes into the game they leveled on aggregate after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross was converted by Bate defender Zakhar Volkov.

Stephan Lichtsteiner denied Bate an equalizer after he made a goalline clearance from Stanislav Dragun’s header.

Shkodran Mustafi doubled Arsenal’s lead before half-time. He headed from the center of the box a corner kick by Granit Xhaka.

The substitute Sokratis Papastathopoulos headed in the third goal from another Granit Xhaka’s corner just on the hour mark.

After a disappointing performance and a lose in the first leg in Belarus, Arsenal needed to score at least twice to go through.

The draw for the last 16 takes place on Friday, 22 February at 4:00 AM PT.
