Manchester City cruise into FA Cup Quarter-Final after a 4-1 victory over Newport

Newport County 1-4 Manchester City

Manchester City beat Newport County to reached the FA Cup quarter-finals after goals from Sané, Foden, and Mahrez.

Newport got to the fifth round after beating Leicester City and Middlesbrough, they produced a great performance in the first half, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

But Leroy Sane scored early second half Sane broke the deadlock, after a link-up with Gabriel Jesus. The German smashed a shot straight at the goal. It slammed the face of the keeper Joe Day and spins over the line as Phil Foden watches it cross instead of poking it in himself.

Phil Foden doubled the City’s lead 75th minute, he skips past a challenge, gets into the box with the ball under his feet and does so well to hit it straight away.

Padraig Amond revived hope for the visitors with an 88th minute goal, after a sloppy header from Aymeric Laporte. He maintained his record of scoring in every round of the competition.

However, Foden ensured there was no grandstand finish with his second goal moments later and Riyad Mahrez scored a fourth in injury time.

City are still in contention for trophies on four fronts, with the Carabao Cup final to come next week for the Premier League leaders, who are still in the Champions League.

Other clubs that reached Quarter-Final so far are:  WatfordBrighton and Millwall.
