Gareth Bale faces lengthy ban after “obscene gesture” celebrating goal against Atletico

La Liga call for Gareth Bale to be sanctioned by the Spanish Football Federation for an provocative celebration after scoring in the Real Madrid 3-1 victory over Atletico Madrid. 

The Welshman could face up to 12-game ban for the arm gesture he made at the Atletico Madrid fans after scoring Madrid’s third goal and his 100th for the club.

Bale raised his bent arm and hit it with his other hand, a gesture widely considered as a way to tell someone to f***off offensive in Spain.

La Liga have written Spanish Football Federation to ask for suspension. He could face a ban of between four to twelve games if deemed to have intentionally incited opposition fans.

A ban of up to three games applies for a gesture made with intent with no hostile reaction.

Bale’s future in Madrid is in doubt and he is no longer starting games after injury. He marched straight down the tunnel after the final whistle, leaving his team-mates to celebrate in the center circle without him.
