Europa Round of 32: Arsenal away struggles continues in a disappointing first leg against Bate

Arsenal succumbed to a first leg defeat against Bate Borisov with a red card for Alexandre Lacazette in the Europa League last 32.

Despite dominating the game with 77% possession, Arsenal managed just three shots on target.

But it was the home that scored the only goal of the game just on the stroke of half-time. Stanislav Dragun nodded in from Igor Stasevich’s free-kick to give the Bate a first leg lead.

Early second half Arsenal’s goal from Alexandre Lacazette was disallowed as offside, (no VAR in use at this stage).

The Frenchman was then sent off 85th minute for elbowing Aleksandar Filipovic.

Arsenal were not able to break the resolute defense of Bate, they held to earn their first win over an English side at home in European competition.

The Belarusian champions will take their narrow win to Emirates Stadium for the second leg next Thursday.
