Barcelona extend their lead on top of La Liga table after a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao 0-0 Barcelona

Barcelona extend their lead on top of La Liga table by six points despite being held to a goalless draw at Athletic Bilbao.

Barcelona’s best chance fell for Lionel Messi, his lob from outside the box hit the top of the crossbar.

The hosts were better team as Markel Susaeta and Inaki Williams forced two excellent saves from Barca keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Athletic ended the game with 10 men after an injury time red card to Oscar de Marcos, who was shown a second yellow card.

Barcelona missed an opportunity to go eight point clear of second-placed Real Madrid, who moved to second following a 3-1 victory over their city rivals Atletico in the Saturday derby.

This is the first time Barcelona had failed to score in a La Liga match in 38 games, since a goalless home draw with Getafe on 11 February 2018.
