West Ham 1-1 Liverpool
Premier League leaders Liverpool suffered a big setback in their title race, as they managed to draw against West Ham to boost the hopes of their title rivals.
The Reds are now three points more than the second-placed Manchester City in the English Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s men started well with Sadio Mane firing a 22nd minute opener past Lukasz Fabianski. It’s great work from Adam Lallana down the right wing and he plays it to James Milner – who is very clearly offside.
The flag doesn’t go up and Milner crosses to Mane, who has his back to goal. The Liverpool forward turns and slams home past Lukasz Fabianski. Luckily for Liverpool VAR doesn’t come in until next season.
Prior to the goal the Hammers showed enough threat in attack to suggest it would not be one-way traffic.
Six minutes later they got a deserved equaliser after the Red’s defense failed to read Felipe Anderson’s disguised free-kick and spot Michail Antonio‘s run into the area. The English winger finished off with a low angled drive which went in off the post.
Liverpool did not trouble West Ham defense, with two shots from Salah and a header from Mane comfortably saved by Fabianski.
Then Divock Origi shot straight at the keeper at the end of the injury time when he had a clear sight of goal.
As reported by BBC sports: “Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Sky Sports: “Not our best of course. it was difficult because of the opponent and our own situation.
“We had good moments.
“We score the goal which was offside
“The referee must know that at half-time, it explains the second half because I think the referee knew and you saw there were a lot of strange situations, not decisive, just rhythm breakers.”
Speaking to the referee after the game: “I was really calm. He said we don’t talk at all.
“There were so many situations where it was 50-50 or 60-40… free kick for the other team. As a human being I know if I make a big mistake in the first half I don’t want to open the gap even more.
“They scored the goal and it was a deserved draw.
“I didn’t see a good game from us, a couple didn’t perform at the highest level but that has happened before and it will happen in the future.“
