Liverpool moved five points clear after being held at home by Leicester

Liverpool 1-1 Leicester

Liverpool failed to capitalize on Manchester City defeat at Newcastle but they extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points after enduring a frustrating night against Leicester City at Anfield.

Liverpool took an early lead after a 30-pass move with Sadio Mane guiding the ball into the bottom corner.

They would have doubled their lead with Roberto Firmino and Mane going close, but Leicester grew into the game and pose some counter-attacking threat.

Harry Maguire deservedly equalized at the stroke of half-time after the host failed to deal with a free-kick. Liverpool failed to clear their line from a corner and Chilwell header back into was met by Maguire.

Earlier the goal scorer escaped a red card after deliberately fouling Mane 40 yards from goal when the winger looked to sprint clear, while Liverpool were denied a second-half penalty when Naby Keita was fouled by Ricardo Pereira.

The hosts cleared snow off the half of the pitch they were attacking during the break, despite that Leicester remained strong on counter attack with Maddison missing great opportunity.

Leicester were threatening throughout and are only the second team to leave Anfield without suffering defeat in the league this season, following Pep Guardiola’s side on 7 October.
