Chelsea has confirmed the signing of Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus. The striker spent the first half of the season on loan with AC Milan.
During his loan spell at AC Milan he scored eight goals in 22 games.
The 31-year-old has moved to Stamford Bridge on an initial loan basis is set to reunite with Maurizio Sarri after ending his loan at Milan. Sarri coached Napoli when Higuain leveled the all-time Serie A scoring record for a single seasons, scoring 36 goals in 2015-2016.
He said in his press conference “When the opportunity to join Chelsea presented itself I had to take it. It’s a team I’ve always liked that has a lot of history, a wonderful stadium and they play in the Premier League, a league I’ve always wanted to play in.”
Since the deal was not completed before Wednesday’s midday deadline, he cannot play on Thursday’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham.
Higuain, who will wear the No 9 shirt at Stamford Bridge said “I now hope I can give back that trust Chelsea have shown me out on the pitch. I can’t wait to start and I hope to adapt as soon as possible.”
Since AC Milan signed Krzysztof Piatek, and Chelsea have in turn signed Higuain, this will now see Alvaro Morata complete his move back to La Liga with Atletico Madrid.
