Frank Lampard’s Derby knocked out Southampton on penalties to progress into FA Cup fourth round

Southampton 2-2 Derby County (3-5 on penalties)

Derby County came from a two-goal down to knock out Southampton on penalties in a scintillating FA Cup third-round replay at St Mary’s.

The visitors got a first half goal from Craig Bryson disallowed by VAR.

Midway through the second half Southampton scored twice in 2 minutes. A 68th minute header from Stuart Armstrong and a 70th minute right footed shot from the center of the box by Nathan Redmond gave Southampton hope of progressing into the next round.
But Harry Wilson converted from a free-kick six minutes later to give the visitors hope, before Martyn Waghorn headed a late equaliser for Frank Lampard’s side.

Redmond missed in the shootout for Southampton, allowing Rams captain Richard Keogh to strike the winning penalty.

Derby travel to League One Accrington in the fourth round on Saturday, 26 January (4:30 AM PT).
