Getafe 1-2 Barcelona
Barcelona extended their lead by five points clear of Atlético Madrid at the top of the table in La Liga after a 2-1 win away to Getafe in their first game of 2019.
Despite a chaotic start with many fouls and yellow cards for both sides, it was Lionel Messi who scored the opening goal 20 minutes, after a pass from Arthur was deflected in the air Messi capitalized on his speed to score the opener fro a very tight angle.
Barça improved after scoring, then won a free kick in the 40th minute, and after Messi’s free kick was half-cleared Luis Suárez scored a spectacular volley from outside the box to double the visitors’ lead.
Jaime Mata pulled one back for the home team just 2 minutes before the break from Rodriguez’s pass.
Getafe dominated the second half as they mount up serious pressures, creating chances, forcing some sensational save from Marc-André ter Stegen and a miss from Jamie Mata after rounding up the keeper. Barcelona also missed some couple of chances to keep the game beyond reach.
