Cazorla scored double to secure a draw for Villarreal against Real Madrid

Villarreal 2-2 Real Madrid

Late goal from Santi Cazorla, his second for the night secured an equalizer for Villarreal and denied Real Madrid the opportunity to move third in the La Liga table.

Santi Cazorla secured the opener for the home team 4 minutes as the Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze supplied a pass from a dazzling dribble. The former Arsenal man sweeps a lovely first-time finish into the corner and past a stretching Thibaut Courtois.

The celebration was short-lived as Karim Benzema level for Real Madrid two minutes later, Lucas Vazquez slips the offside trap down the right flank, gets his head up and floats over a lovely cross for the French man, who buries it to level.

Raphael Varane put the visitors in front from Toni Kroos’ free-kick delivery as he headed the ball downward to beat the goalkeeper. The Villarreal goalkeeper, Sergio Asenjo was flat-footed and badly positioned, failing to get a full stretch after a ball that looked well within his grasp.

Real Madrid would have scored a third but Luka Modric strike was flagged offside flag.

Santi Cazorla then levelled for the home team to secure a well deserved equalizer.
