Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League by nine points after a resounding victory over Arsenal at Anfield with a hat trick from Roberto Firmino.
Arsenal scored the opener 11 minutes after Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored from Alex Iwobi’s cross.
But it was a short-lived lead as Liverpool became rampant and scored two quick goals from Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian forward took advantage of Arsenal’s defensive confusion to quickly equalize before scoring the second, all in the space of two minutes.
Sadio Mané made is 3-1 after 32 minutes before Mohamed Salah added the fourth from the penalty spot in first-half injury time after he was fouled by Sokratis.
Liverpool then sealed the win as Firmino completed his hat-trick from the spot after 65 minutes following Sead Kolasinac’s push on Dejan Lovren.
Manchester City are ten points behind in third position but will attempt to close the gap at Southampton on Sunday before they meet Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on 3 January 12 PM PT.
