Chelsea and Arsenal are both winners of their respective Europa League groups even before the last match day, they will find out who they play against in the last 32 round. Chelsea team drew their last game against MOL Vidi on Thursday early game to remain unbeaten, Arsenal also continued their unbeaten run with a win over Qarabag. The Europa knockout stages will include eight third-placed teams from the Champions League.
Arsenal and Chelsea have the potential of meeting the four unseeded Champions League teams with other eleven second-placed teams from Europa except teams that re runners-up in their respective group. There are in total 15 teams that both the Blues and the Gunners can potentially meet in the knockout stages:
Viktoria Plzen, Club Brugge, Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray, Zurich, Celtic, Slavia Prague, Fenerbahce, Olympiakos, Rapid Vienna, Lazio, Malmo, Krasnodar, Rennes, Sporting Lisbon/BATE Borisov
They cannot be drawn against the runner-up from their own group (Sporting for Arsenal, BATE Borisov for Chelsea) or a team from the same country. They cannot also be drawn against four seeded teams that dropped from UEFA Champions League: Inter Milan, Napoli, Benfica and Valencia.
The draw for the knockout stages of the Europa League takes place on Monday December 17 in Nyon, Switzerland and the first legs will be played on Thursday February 14 and the second legs a week later.
