Portugal remained on top of Group A3 and secured a place in the semi-finals of the Nations League after a goalless draw over Italy at San Siro.

The Italians failed to convert their best chances in the game.

Portugal were without Cristiano Ronaldo – their goal scoring record player. The Juventus forward has not featured for his country since the World Cup as he is on a temporary break, while Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini made his 100th appearance.

This result ensures Portugal remain on top of the group and qualify for semi-final with seven points from three games in the three-team group. Portugal will play Poland, who are already relegated on Tuesday.

Portugal are favored to host the semifinals and finals in June since they finished above the two other countries, Italy and Poland who expressed interest in hosting the tournament. The decision still has to be confirmed by UEFA on Dec. 3.
