Old Captain bows out for the new, and Gareth Southgate handed Rooney his last game

Callum Wilson scores his first goal for England against United States of America in a 3 nil win as Wayne Rooney plays his last game for England.

Wayne Rooney, who is England’s top scorer of all time, completed his 120th cap for England as he bows out with 53 goals to his name. He started the match from bench and was introduced into the game 58th minute when England were already two nil up.

Two great goals were scored in quick succession, first from Jesse Lingard‘s 25th minute curling 18-yard strike and Alexander-Arnold‘s powerful drive from Sanch’s assist two minutes later.

In the early second half when Rooney was introduced he hits the target twice but was denied by the USA goalkeeper, but Callum Wilson scored his debut goal for England 77th minute with a close-range finish.

It was a sensational night as Rooney was given a standing ovation by the fans as he was introduced. It would have been a perfect finish for him had he scored but his injury time attempt was comfortably saved by the USA keeper. Rooney also exhibited his notable humility by his passess even when fans were encouraging him to shoot.
