Arsenal set up for a showdown with Tottenham in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after surviving a late scare from a mid-table third tier club – Blackpool and both sides finished the game with 10 men.

The first goal was scored by Stephan Lichtsteiner just three minutes past half an hour, this was his first goal since joining from Juventus. Then Emile Smith Rowe doubled the Arsenal’s just 5 minutes after the break.

Arsenal’s midfielder Matteo Guendouzi was given a second yellow card four minutes before the hour mark after pulling back Jordan Thompson.

Blackpool, reduced the deficit through Paudie O’Connor’s header from a corner. This placed great pressure on Arsenal in a nervy moment.

However, Blackpool were also reduced to 10 men with six minutes to regulation time as the goal scorer Paudie O’Connor was dismissed with a straight red card for taking out the substitute Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Arsenal threatened to break.

Arsenal extended their unbeaten run to 13 matches under new manager Unai Emery but much work to be done as they are set to meet their arch rival Tottenham in the quarter final. Tottenham breezed past West Ham as Son scored twice.
