Manchester United won Everton in a tough contest to move up to 8th in the Premier League table with five points behind Arsenal who are sitting 4th after draw against Crystal Palace. This also ended Everton’s three-game winning run.

Manchester United recovered from a 1-0 defeat against Juventus on Tuesday’s Champions League match, but moved up two places to 8th after victory at Old Trafford over Everton.

United got the lead from Paul Pogba‘s very slow 27 steps run-up penalty which was saved by Jordan Pickford, but he pounced on the rebound to score the goal. A penalty as a result of a foul on Anthony Martial, though it was alleged that the Frenchman dived. According to Sky Sports News FA will not investigate the dive.

Anthony Martial  doubled United’s lead just 4 minutes into the second half with a superb effort from the edge of the box assisted setup by Pogba.

Gylfi Sigurdsson got back one for Everton 13 minutes to regulation time from a penalty awarded Everton resulting from Pogba’s cheap surrender of possession in midfield, which allowed Sigurdsson to play Richarlison through on goal and the Brazilian was taken out by a careless challenge from Chris Smalling.
