Tottenham 0-1 Manchester City
Manchester City moved back to the top of Premier League table after Riyad Mahrez scored the lone early goal over Tottenham
The Algerian forward, buried home sixth-minute cross from Raheem Sterling to score the only goal of the game and the wining goal for Manchester City.
It was not a perfect pitch, badly damage by the NFL match on Sunday between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars, however both team displayed resilience and Manchester City came on top with a win.
City were totally in control of the game it would have ended in more goals after missed opportunities from David Silva and Raheem Sterling. The Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris made two superb saves to deny Sergio Aguero double.
Tottenham also missed a rare opportunity when Eric Lamela blew up an open goal from Dele Alli’s pass.
City are ahead of Liverpool on goal difference as both teams on currently 26 points from 10 games.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke on the performance especially on Lamela’s miss:“When the ball was going to Erik I said ‘goal’ but no, watching the replay, the ball just bounced before his boot and that is why he missed.”I think it was a great game in difficult circumstances. I feel very proud. The effort was fantastic and we competed really, really well. It is a shame we conceded after five minutes but the team was good. I am happy with the performance.”
“Very poor. It is clear it is our mistake. We conceded a very cheap goal. In the big games, this type of action, you can not concede a goal like we conceded today. We lost the game but I think playing Man City, they suffered the most (they have this season).”
On the other hand Man City manager Pep Guardiola spoke to BBC Sport:”It was a great victory in special conditions, against one of the most physical teams in Europe. We had many chances. We have to score and we didn’t. That is why hopefully we will improve in the future.
“It was not football conditions to play. We reacted well. For our players and the players of Tottenham, hopefully they will sort the problem for the future.”
