Barcelona 5-1 Real Madrid
Barcelona thrashed their rival, Real Madrid in a humiliating El Clasico defeat. Luis Suarez scored a hat-trick in Lionel Messi’s absence to move Barcelona back to the top of La Liga table with seven points ahead of Madrid.
Barcelona dominated the game right from the first period and scored in the first half, resulting from Philippe Coutinho‘s 11th-minute goal and Suarez‘s half an hour penalty awarded by a Video Assistant Referee review.
An early second half goal from Marcelo Vieira raised a brief hope of a comeback for madrid. But a double from Suarez double and a header from Arturo Vidal sealed the win for the home team.
The result is the heaviest Clasico defeat in three years. The former Spain national team coach seems certain to lose his job after this abysmal performance from his side.
Madrid midfielder Casemiro told Spanish television after the match: “This 5-1 sums up our season so far. We have played well in some spells, but that is this season – we are a disaster, all playing very bad, all of us.”
